Jim I. Mead is Professor of Geology, and Director of the Quaternary Sciences Program, Northern Arizona University. Major research projects include the Rancholabrean fauna from Térapa, Sonora, Mexico; cranial morphology of modern and fossil agamid lizards from Western Australia; and the evolution of North American bovids (the topic of this paper).
